Regulations for Use of Building and Equipment
I. A “RENTAL APPLICATION/AGREEMENT” must be signed and all fees paid in advance before the event will be placed on the official church events calendar. The Garrett United Methodist Church (GUMC) reserves the right to cancel the rental agreement should the need arise. Scheduling of time and place of any activity must be cleared through the GUMC Trustees, church secretary, Pastor or any duly authorized person. GUMC is not responsible for lost or stolen items while utilizing the building or equipment.
II. Use of facilities shall be limited to non-commercial, religious, family, civic or community functions whose nature and activities are in keeping with the spirit of GUMC and are consistent with the social principles of the United Methodist Church Book of Discipline.
III. Church buildings and equipment (tables, chairs, etc) shall be available (at no charge) for any GUMC sponsored activity by groups or individual members of the church. Such activities include District and Conference activities or any ecumenical service or activity [i.e. Garrett Ministerial Association, United Methodist Women (UMW), etc]. Any item(s) being removed from the property for use must be signed out through the office, have a “RENTAL APPLICATION/AGREEMENT” completed and be scheduled on the official church events calendar so as to not have conflicts. Only the old tables and old folding chairs may be loaned out for off-premises use.
IV. Any group or individual using the church’s facilities shall leave them clean and in order. Lights are to be turned off (including restrooms) and doors locked if a key has been issued. We request thermostats not be changed without assistance from a trustee or custodian.
V. The fireplace in the lounge is not useable.
VI. The use of alcohol, tobacco, narcotics or other drugs is prohibited on church property.
VII. The person signing the “RENTAL APPLICATION/AGREEMENT” shall be held responsible for use of the building and equipment on or off premises. The responsible person shall give an accounting of any damages or abuse of building and/or equipment to the GUMC Board of Trustees. Additionally, a duly authorized person of GUMC will assess the condition of the property and/or equipment upon completion of the rental agreement. The GUMC Board of Trustees will assess any fees incurred if damage to property or equipment is sustained. Such fees will be the responsibility of the person signing the “RENTAL APPLICATION/AGREEMENT”.
VIII. In serving of funeral dinners by the GUMC congregation, the family group will not be charged for use of the kitchen, fellowship hall or lounge. The United Methodist Women (UMW) group will coordinate the arrangements for the funeral dinner.
